Many years ago, I started my first company. Excitedly, I carefully prepared everything and launched the business, for a while it was going great until – I needed more customers. Easy I thought, I will start marketing and get the word out there – I’ve built it, they will come. The basics were easy, newspaper/magazine advertisements, I even had a marketing plan that I kept to. Most of the work I produced myself (fortunately my background is in advertising) and I kept costs down. Next, I needed a website, spending several thousand pounds on getting online; I even spent a couple thousand on social media training. Once my shiny new website was up online, the salesmen swept in – ‘I can get you to the top of Google’, ‘we’ll put your leaflets through thousands of doors’… Nothing came close to bringing me a worthwhile return on the money spent.
With my advertising and marketing experience (and armed with the knowledge of how not to get customers); I threw myself into digital marketing full time and built a marketing business, helping many clients reach their goals. I met Tom and Chris, experts in web development and graphic design whilst working on a project together. Ever since we’ve been providing our unique skills and insights to solve client’s problems. Makilo was born! Dedicated to helping client’s succeed we started Makilo in Milton Keynes, working with independent businesses, charities and startups. As the needs of our clients have grown, so has our team – Pat is our newest member, supporting clients with their marketing, setting targets and tracking results.
